EFA Project Space is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary arts venue producing exhibitions, artist projects, and the Shift Residency for artists who work for arts organizations. EFA Project Space seeks Exhibition Interns for our fall term, which runs from September - December 2016. The fall term begins with preparations and mounting of a dynamic exhibition, Apparatus for a Utopian Image, exploring image perception and communication – a “game” setup between a group of prominent contemporary Czech artists, US artists, and the public. This will be followed in November and December with Once More, with Feeling, a critical curatorial exploration of gender, labor, and class. Public programs that activate the content of the exhibitions will take place throughout the fall season, as well as planning for exhibitions and programs in 2017.
Typical responsibilities include: assisting in the execution and publicity and educational supplements; assisting with planning efforts for exhibitions during the upcoming season; researching and developing public programming concepts; exploring opportunities for institutional collaboration; seeking sponsorship and grant opportunities; assisting with coordination and execution of events; monitoring the gallery space; assisting with registrarial duties for exhibition production; and educating audience members on current exhibitions. For added educational benefit, EFA Project Space staff members take interns on occasional gallery trips and studio visits with member artists of the EFA Studio Program to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary art-making and curatorial practice.
The ideal candidate possesses the following skills, qualities, and availability:
+A current student with a background in the arts and culture. Students seeking an internship for academic credit are strongly encouraged to apply because this is an unpaid internship.
