About Kruttika Susarla

Kruttika Susarla is an illustrator and cartoonist from Andhra Pradesh, India currently in Rochester, NY. Her practice ranges from making comics about dogs, crows, and leeches resisting the gig economy to designing zines, books, and toolkits for community-based organisations and advocacy groups.

Visual Description: Inspired by Faith Ringgold’s 1972 poster “United States of Attica”, this digital illustration depicts the United States map and emphasizes the amount of banned books in each state. This illustration is one of three interpretations of the original map showcased in this exhibition. 

The background is colored brown with written information in red and white throughout the piece. The map is divided into various states with shades of blue and purple.
